LEONARDO DA VINCI: SYNTHESIS BETWEEN ART AND SCIENCE AT BOYD COMMUNITY HUB, SOUTHBANK
“To develop a complete mind: study the science of art;
study the art of science. Learn how to see.
Realize that everything connects to everything else”.
Leonardo da Vinci
Born in Vinci, near Florence on the 15th April 1452, illegitimate son of the notary Ser Piero.
In 1472 his father arranged for Leonardo to enter Andrea del Verrocchio’s workshop, where Perugino and Botticelli were studying too. His young genius overcame his old teacher even before completing his apprenticeship.
“We had unfortunately lost almost all the works of this genius either in sculpture or in painting; it remains some irrelevant ruins compared to the work that he made. It is known that the big equestrian Francesco Sforza’s statue was accidently destroyed during its triumphal transportation; as far as the magistral work “The Last Supper” is concerned, because of the imperfections of the preparations of the walls and the flood in Milan, in 1545 was already in ruin (the inferior part of Jesus face was deteriorated to open a door in the wall).
